Currently, 1.3 billion people do not have access to electricity and 2.6 billion people still depend on traditional biomass resources for uses such as cooking. Access to energy is one of the major challenges of the 21st century insofar as its improvement constitutes a significant lever for economic and human development, both at individual and national levels. Access to energy represents a market with very high potential and numerous opportunities for companies and industrialists.
In this publication, Enea Consulting provides an overview of energy access in the world (players, current and future needs, existing technological solutions, markets). The five main challenges facing access to energy, namely energy prices, equipment financing, distribution, scaling and environmental performance, were analysed.
